Born on september 16, 1982, Texas native Alexis Bledel's parents encouraged her to try community theater in Houston when she was 8 years old, hoping it would help their daughter overcome her shyness. She went on to perform in productions of Our Town, The Wizard of Oz and Aladdin, and later was scouted in a local mall to model. She began her modeling career while still in high school, traveling all over to locations like Tokyo, Milan, New York and Los Angeles. After graduating, she enrolled at NYU as a film major. In the Spring of 2000, Bledel landed a manager through her modeling agency and headed to Los Angeles for her first pilot season, where she quickly landed the coveted role of Rory. For her work on Girlmore Girls, Bledel was honored with the 2002 Family Friendly Forum Award for Best Actress in a Drama, She was also nominated as Best Actress in a Drama by the Teen Choice Awards in 2002. She made her feature film debut as Winnie Foster in "Tuck Everlasting," co-starring William Hurt and Sissy Spacek. This Eurasian mix is what gave Kristin her exotic look that has helped advance her career so quickly. She attended and graduated from Eric Hamber High School and although she did spend time in the drama program doing stage work in school, she was more focused on her studies and future career. She has been known to describe herself as shy and boring.
For her first professional work, she went to an open casting audition for Edgemont, a teen-drama series aired on CBC television in Canada. She had really no plans of pursing acting professionally but her high school was sent a fax for an open call for “exotic looking” girls to play a part in a new television show. She plays the role of Laurel Yeung a young Toronto urbanite. Laurel was the very last main character to be cast because the casting director was having a real problem finding an actress who fit the unique look they were looking for. Fortunately for them (and us), they found Kristin in the nick of time.
Her career was set to skyrocket off when she landed a choice lead role on the highly acclaimed WB television series, Smallville. It follows the story of a teenaged Clark Kent in his pre-Superman days in a small town of Smallville, Kansas. Kristin plays the role of Lana Lang, the popular girl at school and Clark Kent’s object of desire before he meets and falls for Lois Lane.
